Air Fryer Baby Potatoes with Garlic Butter

Air Fryer Baby Potatoes with Garlic Butter

Baby potatoes take 12 to 15 minutes in the air fryer at 200°C (400°F), shaken once halfway through. Toss them in plant-based butter, garlic, thyme, salt and pepper first, then cook until the skins are golden and a fork slides straight through. The outside crisps, the middle stays soft, and you get a side dish with almost no work.

The Best Air Fryer Baby Potatoes

Do you ever think people add excessively many “additional ingredients” to their recipes? You are unable to identify what the main ingredient is anymore, right? Yup, me as well. Because of this, I like to keep things simple and allow quality ingredients to take centre stage.

So when I saw baby potatoes at the grocery, I realised I had to use my trusted air fryer for cooking them. I suppose it’s not named an “air fryer” for no reason; it’s really the best kitchen tool for making potatoes that are flawlessly crispy and golden brown. It’s also very simple to use and easy to clean up.

In the process of thinking about what to put in my potato recipe, I got some plant-based butter, salt, pepper, garlic, parsley, and thyme from my kitchen cupboard.

I let the potatoes cook in the air-fryer, shaking them halfway through to ensure they cooked evenly until they were soft and nicely browned. I could smell the garlic and herbs in the kitchen, which made my mouth water.

The baby potatoes were successfully completed. I took them out of the air fryer and put them on a serving dish while admiring how golden and crispy the edges were. When I took a bite, I was blown away by how simple, yet perfect, their taste was. The potatoes didn’t need anything else to make them shine.

Baby Potatoes & Garlic Butter

I knew that the garlic butter would go wonderfully with my baby potatoes cooked in an air fryer. It was thick, creamy, and had a deep, garlicky flavour that went well with the potatoes.

So I used the same method the following time I prepared baby potatoes, but this time I also added a lot of garlic butter to the mixture. After thoroughly coating the potatoes in the butter, I inserted them into the air fryer to finish cooking them.

As the potatoes were cooking, the fragrance of garlic filled my kitchen, which made my mouth water.

I liked the result even more than I had anticipated. The exterior of the baby potatoes was golden and crispy, while the inside was soft and creamy. The garlic butter gave the potatoes a rich, savoury flavour that went well with their natural sweetness.

In a large bowl, toss the potatoes with the garlic butter, thyme, a drizzle of olive oil, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Make sure that everything is coated evenly and looks good.

Move the seasoned potatoes carefully into the basket and ensure they are all in one layer. Set the temperature to 200°C (400°F) and let them cook for 12 to 15 minutes, or until they are soft and golden brown on the outside. To ensure even crisping, don’t forget to shake the basket halfway during cooking.

When the timer goes off, take the potatoes out of the air fryer, put them on a plate and eat them while they are still hot.

FAQs About Air Fryer Baby Potatoes with Garlic Butter

What temperature should I use for cooking baby potatoes in the air fryer?

Set the air fryer to 200°C (400°F). That is hot enough to dry the skins and crisp them without the middles staying raw. If your air fryer runs hot, drop it to 190°C (375°F) and add a couple of minutes instead.

How long should I cook baby potatoes in the air fryer?

Cook them for 12 to 15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through so every side browns. Whole potatoes larger than a golf ball can need 18 minutes. They are ready when a fork slides in with no resistance and the skins have gone crackly and golden.

Can I make air fryer baby potatoes without oil?

Yes, you can skip the oil, but the potatoes may be slightly less crispy. Garlic butter adds enough flavour and moisture.

Can I use a Ninja air fryer for this recipe?

A Ninja air fryer works well for baby potatoes. Follow the same temperature and cooking time, and check them a minute or two early the first time so you learn how your model behaves.

Should I cut the baby potatoes in half or cook them whole?

You can do either. Halved potatoes will cook slightly faster and get crispier, while whole potatoes retain a softer texture inside.

Do I need to preheat the air fryer?

Preheating isn’t always necessary, but it helps achieve a crispier texture faster. Three minutes at 200°C (400°F) is plenty.

Can I add other seasonings besides garlic butter?

Yes, feel free to add herbs like rosemary, thyme, or smoked paprika for extra flavour.

How long do air fryer potatoes keep?

Cooled leftovers keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. They lose their crunch overnight, so reheat them in the air fryer at 190°C (375°F) for three to four minutes rather than in the microwave. They are also good cold, chopped through a salad with a squeeze of lemon.

Conclusion

Garlic butter air fryer baby potatoes are a simple, flavourful side dish that works in any air fryer, including a Ninja. With 12 to 15 minutes at 200°C (400°F) you get crispy, tender potatoes coated in garlic butter. They work with or without the extra oil, which makes them handy for quick weeknight meals. Swap in different herbs and seasonings to suit whatever else is on the table.
