Vegan Filet O Fish
This vegan filet o fish is a McDonald’s-style copycat burger made from blended tofu and chickpeas, flavoured with nori and wakame seaweed, coated in panko breadcrumbs and deep-fried until golden. The seaweed gives the patty a savoury, oceanic taste without any actual fish. Prep takes about 15 minutes, with 20 minutes of cooking.
What gives this vegan burger its seafood flavour?
Nori and wakame seaweed are the key ingredients. Blended into the tofu and chickpea mixture, they bring a briny, oceanic note close to real fish.

How do you make vegan filet o fish?
The first thing to prepare is the burger patties.
Place the tofu in the food processor and start to blend it, then drain the chickpeas, keeping their liquid in a small bowl to use later.
Add the chickpeas to the tofu along with the wakame seaweed and the dried nori seaweed sheets.
Blend for one minute, taking care not to over-blend the ingredients.
Pour the mixture into a bowl and season with the salt and the black pepper.
Use your hands to knead the burger mix.
Divide the mixture into 4 parts and press them down into a burger shape, pressing firmly to prevent them from breaking.
Leave them in the fridge for 20 minutes. In the meantime, take a small bowl and mix together the water, the reserved liquid from the canned chickpeas and the flour. Add the paprika too.
Use a whisk to beat the mixture into a smooth batter.
Dip the burgers in the batter, then toss them in a dish filled with the panko breadcrumbs, pressing firmly to get a nice thick coating.
Fill a skillet with vegetable oil, place over high heat and once the oil has reached 350°F, deep-fry the burgers until the coating turns golden brown.
What toppings go well on this vegan fish burger?
Cut the buns in half and season the inner sides with salt and pepper. Lay the deep-fried burger in the bun and add lettuce, sliced tomato and a slice of vegan cheese to complete it.
