After knowing all of these advantages of spirulina, let’s know about what we can make with it. Spirulina can be used with different supplements. It can be used to make juice, smoothies, truffles, and even cookies. Spirulina is just one ingredient, but we can use it for different purposes and prepare many healthy and delightful dishes.

Let’s make one of those spirulina dishes known as spirulina balls. We can make spirulina balls in different sizes and colors depending on the type we prefer. We can add a lot of things like berries, butter, nuts, etc. But for now, let’s go with spirulina balls with coconut. It’ll be vegan and easy to make.

Spirulina Balls

Here is a recipe for spirulina balls with coconuts. It might be possible that it takes a little more time to get used to that taste of spirulina since it contains seaweedy after taste. But with time, if we have it in small amounts, we can get used to its taste. This recipe is less time-consuming and, of course, very healthy. It’s a snack that is not fatty but chewy. Thanks to the dates that will work as a sweetener, there is no need for sugar.

We are adding oats to make it hearty and some seeds for making it healthier. It is a great recipe for those looking for a quick snack with unique taste and health benefits. These are vegan and a good substitute for a healthy diet. Another best part is that you don’t need any cooking experience. It’s not time-consuming and does not consist of any complicated steps during the process. It’s a perfect snack for kids and adults. We can customize the recipe according to our preferences and availability.

We neither need a lot of ingredients nor a lot of time. It is a quick recipe.

Ingredients required

 

  • Toasted coconut flakes – 1 cup
  • Spirulina – 1 and 1/2 cup (We are taking green spirulina so, our balls will also be green in color)
  • Chia seeds – 2 Tbsp
  • Sesame seeds – 2 Tbsp
  • Dates – ½ cup
  • Oats – 1/3 cup
  • Hemp seeds – 2 Tbsp (Hemp seeds are rich in protein, fibers, vitamins, and minerals. It also boosts heart health and reduces inflammation. Thus, it will also increase the nutritional value of our spirulina balls.)
  • Coconut oil (Melted) – 2 Tbsp
  • Matcha powder (Optional) – 2 Tbsp (it is Japanese green tea powder made from finely dried tea leaves, and it is vibrant green in color.)

Recipe Instructions for Spirulina Balls

 

  • We will start by taking hemp, coconut flakes, oats, chia seeds, dates, coconut oil, and sesame seeds. Put them in a food processor and prepare the sticky dough.
  • Now, start adding spirulina. Add half a teaspoon at a time and then pulse it. If you prefer a strong spirulina taste, add 1 and ½ teaspoon of spirulina on the other hand. If you prefer a milder taste, add only ½ to 1 teaspoon of spirulina. It’s all about our preferred choice and taste.
  • Here we are done with the mixture, now, use a tablespoon and scoop out the mixture. Take each scoop and start rolling the scoops in your hands to form balls. We can customize the size of the balls according to our choice.
  • Transfer the balls to a plate and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Congratulations! Healthy and tasty spirulina balls with coconut are ready.
  • We can also roll the balls in some matcha powder. This will make your spirulina balls covered in matcha powder. This step is optional but can make our spirulina balls tastier. We can also roll our spirulina balls in coconut flakes.
  • Now, you can enjoy your green, healthy and delicious vegan spirulina balls.

 

Here are some tips to keep in mind while making these spirulina balls.

  • While toasting our coconut flakes, we have to keep a close eye on our coconut flakes because coconut can burn very fast while toasting our coconut flakes. Also, they should be toasted in the oven for 5 minutes at 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • You can add the dates into a bowl of boiling water for 5 minutes if your dates are hard. Then, drain the water, and your dates are ready to use as indicated.
  • If you don’t have spirulina available, you can use matcha as an alternative, but, of course, spirulina is the key ingredient of this recipe; if we use matcha, it will change the whole recipe. Depending on the availability, we can still use this alternative.
  • We can also add nuts like almonds, cashew, walnuts, pistachios, etc., in the mixture that will increase the taste and nutrition of our spirulina balls.
  • These nuts need to be chopped. You can also add nuts for garnishing after preparing your spirulina balls.
  • We can have spirulina balls as a snack or as a dessert, or after morning breakfast. For more satisfaction, it’s good to have spirulina balls with oats, fruits or yogurt, etc.
  • You should store your spirulina balls in the fridge and can have them any time in a day. You can also take it anywhere when you go out.
  • You can also add chocolates and mints to the mixture and make your spirulina balls.
  • Make sure to store them in an airtight container or a sealed bag.
  • You can also use blue spirulina for getting blue balls. Blue balls look prettier. We can also give them the shape of a cookie. You can also add almond butter while making.
  • You can also add flavors to the balls by adding cinnamon and cardamom. It will make the spirulina balls slightly spicy along with being beautifully sweet.

It’s necessary to know that you can only store your spirulina ball for one week.
